Victorian Heat Alerts

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast temperatures above heat health thresholds in Victoria for Tuesday 14. Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 January 2014  in the following weather forecast districts:
  • North Central District (based on forecasts for Seymour)
  • Mallee District (based on forecasts for Mildura)
  • West & South Gippsland District (based on forecasts for Sale)
  • East Gippsland District (based on forecasts for Bairnsdale)
  • South West District (based on forecasts for Hamilton)
  • Central District (based on forecasts for Melbourne, Ballarat or Geelong)
  • Northern Country District (based on forecasts for Shepparton or Bendigo)
  • Wimmera District (based on forecasts for Horsham)
  • North East District (based on forecasts for Wodonga)

Note that the predicted mean temperatures for these districts are expected to meet the heat health temperature threshold of (30 and 34°C) due to high overnight minimum temperatures.

Heatwaves can affect anybody and cause illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke which may be fatal.

The most important things to remember for yourself and your customers are:

  • drink plenty of water
  •          
  • stay out of the sun
  •          
  • look after yourself and others

Ensure that you are up to date with important information which you can assist your customers if they do happen to become hydrated or develop cramps from the following education modules.
