Pharmacists Join Close the Gap Day

Local Darwin pharmacists participated in the National Close the Gap Day event which was held at the Jingili Water Gardens on March 20.  The community event was a collaboration of many health care organisations from the Darwin region joining forces, including the Pharmacy Guild, Danila Dilba Health service, NT Medicare Local, Flinders University NT, Council for Aboriginal Alcohol Programs Services (CAAPS), the Larrakia Nation and AMSANT.

Delicious Kangaroo burgers with a healthy salad were a selection of what was on offer on the day.  For those interested in quenching their thirst, a smoothie bike was available, where you could make a delicious fruit smoothie whilst you cycled. Entertainment included a didgeridoo workshop alongside some local dance performances from the One Mob dancers and the Groovy Grans Line dancers.

In recognition of the role we all have to play in addressing Indigenous health inequality, local pharmacists were on hand to offer insight and advice on the professional services available from community pharmacies and also provided a valuable opportunity for people to discuss any medication queries they had.
